This is particularly helpful for mothers who are recovering from a c-section. When shopping for a crib that is bedside, look for a model that has a breathable mattress and a cover to protect your newborn from staining. You might also want to purchase some baby-safe accessories like an infant blanket or a teether.

If you're looking for a longer-term option, some cribs come with conversion kits that allow you to transform them into a cot, or a toddler bed at the time of need. This is a great way to extend their lifespan and making the transition easier. Some come with a removable section at the top that can be converted into an infant bed. Others can be used with either a regular adult bed or a high-rise model. This is a great option for families that plan to frequently travel or switch between bedrooms in the evening. You should also think about how big your bedroom is to ensure you can fit the crib in comfortably. The Joie Roomie Glide

Famous for their high-end baby products, English brand Joie has entered the world of bedside cribs with the Roomie Glide. The co-sleeper was created to enable parents to bond and sleep side by side with their babies, without sharing the same bed. It's packed with features that make bonding between parents and baby secure, easy, and fun.

One of the main features is a smooth rocking motion that can be activated by the push of an button. This gentle rhythm can help to soothe your baby without disrupting their natural sleep patterns. This is great for older babies and toddlers who struggle to settle and can also help with digestion problems such as reflux and colic.

The crib can be locked in it once the rocking is completed to stop it from moving. It can also be secured to the side of your bed by clips and straps. This makes the crib very solid and secure, allowing you to sleep peacefully, without having to worry that your child will slide off into the middle. The cocoon's rounded shape features softly padded sides and two mesh windows on both sides to allow for ample air flow while protecting your baby.

The mattress included is soft and comfortable and has an easily removable cover. The aluminium frame is light and lightweight, making the crib extremely portable and easy to assemble. The premium airflow mattresses offer a comfy sleeping surface, while the ventilation panels keep your baby cool. Additionally, it comes with a top bar that can be easily lowered to feed at night without having to search for zips in the dark.

Anna discovered that the CoZee was a safe and comfy sleeping space for her infant. It was a pleasure to not move like other models, so she wasn't woken up in the night trying to soothe her child during feedings. She also liked the fact that the side could be lowered so she didn't need to reach over her partner to lift the baby for night time feeds.

The CoZee is available in charcoal and oak and is a beautiful addition to the bedroom. It's more an expensive piece of furniture than many of the other cribs we've tested, and can appear rather utilitarian. It's also relatively lightweight at just 11kg and comes with a carry bag which allows you to take it on vacation or when you move home. It's all you need to buy is a waterproof sheet and a safety strap for sleeping together. There are step-bystep instructions and photos to help you put it together when you first open the box and making it a single-person job if needed.

The Maxi-Cosi Lora

The Iora is an infant bassinet designed to help parents feel closer to their baby while they sleep. It can be adjusted up and down and moves through three slide positions to fit beside the bed of the parent or in the corner of the room, so that the baby is always close at hand. The mesh siding allows air to flow through, and allows you to see your baby easily. You can also put away any extra pajamas or items in the large basket beneath.

The Iora is a smaller bedside cot that folds flat. It also comes with a travel case to allow it to be carried anywhere. It was easy to move around from room to space, and our mum testers felt it was the perfect size for a bedside crib. They also liked the large storage basket, perfect for storing nappies or other bedding items.

This is an excellent choice for parents who are looking to sleep in a co-sleeping arrangement but don't wish to share their beds, or whose partners might have mobility issues, like arthritis or back pain. Our mom testers loved the ease with which they could access their child in the Iora and that it included an adjustable reflux incline that helped alleviate gas.

Our moms also love the fact that it meets NICE guidelines that state to put the infant in the crib or Moses basket on its own (with no toys, blankets pillows, etc.). They also claim that the mattress is firm and comfortable for baby and is easy to find sheets for. It's not as light as other cribs that are smaller on our list, so if prefer something lighter and easier for you to move around, consider a different option.
